Vibratory Tub FAQs

Common questions about the Polar FMT vibratory tub series.

What's the difference between the Portable, Small Series, and Large Series FMT tubs?
The Portable series (FMT-0.75 and FMT-2.5) runs on standard 110/230V single-phase power with swivel casters for full shop mobility — no dedicated wiring or fixed installation. The Small Series (FMT-03 and FMT-06) is stationary but compact, suited to 3–6.5 cu ft batch loads with a 5-inch discharge door and integrated recirculation. The Large Series (FMT-10, FMT-12, FMT-14) is three-phase industrial equipment for continuous production environments handling heavy, high-volume, or oversized parts.
What parts and materials work best in a vibratory tub vs. a vibratory bowl?
Vibratory tubs excel with long, flat, heavy, or irregularly shaped parts that won't tumble effectively in a round bowl — extrusions, shafts, stampings, frames, and large castings. If your parts are over 12" long, weigh more than 10 lbs each, or have geometries that would interlock in a bowl, an FMT tub is the right choice. Bowls are better for small-to-medium parts processed in high-volume batch runs.
Do I need special electrical wiring for the FMT series?
Portable models (FMT-0.75 and FMT-2.5) plug into standard 110/230V single-phase power — no electrician required. Small Series and Large Series models require 220/440V single or three-phase. Most Canadian industrial shops already have 240V or 600V three-phase available; we can confirm compatibility during the quoting process and advise on transformer requirements if needed.
What add-on options are available for FMT tubs?
Available upgrades include: Variable Speed Drive (VFD) for amplitude control, Compound & Water Dosing System (FM-DP-3C) for automated compound delivery, pneumatic lid operation, pneumatic media unload door, and rubber mounts for noise and vibration reduction. These options can be specified at time of order and are not field-retrofittable on all models.
What is the lead time and how do I order?
Lead time is 6–10 weeks after receipt of order (ARO). These are built-to-order machines — we do not stock finished inventory. Freight is quoted separately based on your shipping address. Use the Request a Quote form above or call 905-361-7999 — we'll send a formal quote with configuration details and freight estimate within 1 business day.
